What is STA Certified Compost?
Our compost and soil blends are STA Certified (Seal of Testing Assurance), a national testing program developed by the U.S. Composting Council that verifies quality, safety, and consistency.
STA certification means every batch is independently tested to ensure it meets strict standards for plant health, safety, and performance.

Why This Matters for Your Garden?
STA certification ensures you are getting a product that is:
🌿 Safe for food gardens – tested to meet strict health standards.
🌱 Plant-ready – fully stabilized and won’t burn or damage plants.
💧 Balanced for growth – optimized nutrients and pH for healthy soil.
🧪 Consistent quality – every batch is tested, not guessed.
🌎 Environmentally responsible – supports proper organic waste recycling.
What This Means for You!
When you use STA Certified compost, you’re not just adding soil—you’re improving long-term soil health with a product that has been scientifically verified for safety and performance.

All Bin Butler estimates include an industry standard 15% safety factor for soil compaction and settling.
Why We Include a 15% Safety Buffer
-
Settling & Compaction (The "Fluff" Factor): Bagged soil is naturally loose and full of air. Once it is spread and hit by the first rain, those air pockets escape and the volume shrinks, causing the soil level to drop by about 10%. The buffer ensures the garden bed still looks professionally "full" after a week.
-
Uneven Ground & Hidden Dips: No garden bed is a perfectly flat geometric shape. Natural ground has dips, holes, and "bellies" that "eat" more soil than a flat measurement would suggest.
-
Edge Loss: In most landscaping, the edges of the bed are dug slightly deeper to create a clean border. This "extra" soil is needed to fill those hidden depths so the mulch or soil stays contained.
-
Spillage & Transit Loss: During the move from the driveway to the backyard, a small amount of soil inevitably ends up on the grass or the walkway. Having a buffer accounts for this minor "operational waste."
-
The "Better Safe Than Sorry" Rule: It is a much better customer experience for a Bin Butler client to have half a bag left over for their porch pots than to be 2 inches short of finishing their project and having to pay for a second delivery.
